Akuna Oval Football Field Lighting Project

This year TH Cock undertook the installation of new football field lighting for the Kenmore Districts Rugby Club and Kenmore District Junior Australian Football Club Inc. at Akuna Oval at Chapel Hill in the western suburbs. The project involved the use of new green technology with the use of "active-reactive" control gear that reduces energy consumption by 20% and increases the light fitting lamp life significantly, reducing the ongoing maintenance costs.

The lighting project lights 3 football fields, 1 AFL and 2 Rugby by use of 9 poles, some common to more than 1 field. A total of 76 Sylvania 2000 watt metal halide floodlights were installed on 9 - 25 and 30 metre lighting supports, provided by GM poles. The lighting levels are able to be varied to the relative use of the field with levels of 50, 100 and 200 llux available for either training or game usage.

The project was designed with a life expectancy of 50 years, and all facets of the design were engineered and installed to meet this criteria.

The project was undertaken in adverse conditions with the fields being effected by the extensive Brisbane summer rains.
